Baphomet

The Goat of Mendes

This is one of the most misunderstood symbols in history. It means that during life the spirit is chained to your body, and if you leave your body your spirit stays attached to your body by a 'Silver Cord'

From the book by Eliphas Levi 'Dogma and Ritual of High Magic'.
The writing on the arms 'Solve Coagula' means 'Break the Chains' . The chains that keep man chained to matter have to be broken in order to obtain wisdom. In the Tarot deck this card is number 15 named 'The Devil'.
If you compare this card to the card number 6 called the 'Lovers' you will notice that the two cards are opposites.
